Yeah I found that out last night, Iferradino...I started at at 8:37 pm last night and had to stop around 4 AM this morning!! LOL and I'm paying for it today....ohhh my back. lol but kept playing hoping to run into some of the characters from the 1st game ( I do NOT like the 'bearded man')! Gonna stay away from 'magic potion recipe' then! LOL I'm gonna try to hide the rest so I don't spoil it for anyone else, so if you can't see it, left click and highlight to read...*warning* if ya don't want to know anything about the game, do not highlight! I was hoping to run into someone that would sell me a bigger ''bag'' to store my items in but never found one. I know, was the name, ?''Muze'?...had a place where I could buy and sell certain items....I was suppose to talk to him about the, 'white man' but could not find him (now this was around 3 am and I was getting tired), I did learn to hunt but for the life of me could not build a thing! I thought the table where you made arrows would be the thing I needed so off to talk to 'Wasani' but nope that wasn't it, or was when the land where we planted the seeds at...when it became flooded, don't know how to fix that, I went all over that island and even discovered a cave that I didn't see the 1st time I was in the, 'Ancestor Forest' (I think it has a bug in it but will bring that up in the survey) gonna stop, might run out of room and I did want to say that everytime I was given something, like the bow and arrow, a message box did pop up asking me if I knew how to use it or did I need to be shown...something along those lines. Hey Jivan, you wanted to be a craftsman, I wanna be a hunter! LOL Prequel?? Huh? I haven't done the survey yet but I thought this game was a sequel to the original? Could of sworn I read that we'd be seeing some of the ppl that were in the 1st game...oh well going back later to see if I can find out how to 'build things'. Hakomo won't talk to me until I've done the building/craft! LOL (I talked to Roho, Wasani & Bomani) got the tasks done with the exception of needing Wasani (hope its not a bug preventing me doing his task!) Running outta room!!

I played it through a second time, picking a different route this time, but it really didn't seem to make a difference; I still ended up doing all the same tasks and ending with the Shaman.  I'm sure the rest of it will come clear later in the game. I can't say that the game flows as smoothly as the original.  Yati seems to run in slow motion sometimes, then when he breaks out of a background color, he takes off!  I spent more time gathering supplies and earning pearls so I could buy the largest bag and a better bow and axe.  I have been to see the Shaman and have the magic potion and the sun.  I don't know that there is much left that I can do until the game is released.  I can't shoot the boars or the snakes, so it's not as much fun running around collecting supplies.

The dialogue is rather confusing, and the spelling and language errors are really atrocious, as if nobody bothered to proof read the text.  Maybe that is because they are going to put live voices in, but they would still leave a lot of text, so it needs to be fixed.  I had to wander around quite a bit to find the Shaman the first time.  He doesn't appear on the map, and you have to keep moving and talking to other characters until the time is right, I guess.

I guess I am a little disappointed that the original cast of characters isn't here, but I'm sure they will get to that eventually.  I'm happy that it sounds like there will be at least a third game!  I love the little 'quick-hoppers', and boy, they are quick!  I'm really looking forward to new tasks and wonderful graphics, tho I have to admit that right now, I still like the first game a ton, and still have a game going!

I knew I should of 'copied' what I typed as it was rather long! Hit 'reply' and got this 'Your session has expired. Please repeat the operation' !!!!!

AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

I wish we could private message one another as I'd like to know where you got a bigger bag and axe at....reckon you could type it in here then highlight it to me?

Gonna make this one short but wanted to let you know, Iferradino... that you can kill the 'quick hoppers'... I did and had to cook one and take it back to Bomani as he was the one to tell me about it and give me the bow and arrows, plus extra ones and then told me where I could go to make more, thinking it had to be built..that's where Wasani would come in and I'd get the ax but he won't even talk to me once I tell him I haven't found a place yet [that one has me stumped'> I have everything but the ax and a bigger bag...I can catch the 'manylegs' lol...shoot the quick hoppers and cook both of them plus plant seeds....can you plant seeds and catch the 'manylegs' (crabs)? Thought I'd let ya know that since you said,' it's not as much fun running around collecting supplies.'  Maybe it will be now. :)
well let's see if this one will make it...have a Dr.s appt at 8:30 so for sure won't be staying up anywhere close to 4 AM (Even if I did wake up about an hour ago) hahaha take care and will talk to ya later~

I downloaded it, played through it, took *extensive* notes on minor language problems.  Clicked the 'take survey' button and got to Awem main page -- which asked me to sign in.  Where's the survey?  And I would really like to share my notes.

I also played the beta, enjoyed it immensely. It was all new to me as I haven't played Island Castaway 1. Naturally, have downloaded a trial and if it is anything near as interesting as this beta I'll buy.

I did the survey, but now realise I forgot to mention one crucial thing:

PLEASE Awem - fix it so the game doesn't override my left-hand mouse setup.

It is very hard to play for long with my fingers in an unnatural (to me) position - and I can't believe that you are capable of creating these games to do whatever you like, but can't fix it so it recognises a left-hand mouse setup? I had to take several breaks during the beta, so that I didn't have continous play.

I loved the game, but will think twice about buying if the hard-wired right-hand mouse isn't fixed.
(hmm, hope the first game doesn't also have right-hand mouse only too?)

Cindihugs, I opened my original game (The real Castaways) and decided to start from the beginning, yet again!  I still love this game so much, and don't think this 'prequel' is as good...yet.  Maybe it's because I already know my way around, what to watch out for, where to find everything I need.  For the very first time, I noticed the 'I' (info) button on the task bar.  I swear I had never noticed that before!

But the one thing that I really miss the most is the wonderful music that would change with locations.  The music in this game is nothing special.  Maybe because it is a more ancient tribal theme...but I'm not liking it much.  The sounds are just as good, but not better than the first game.  That's just fine, because I really thought they did a stellar job of producing such incredibly real sound events.

I do see where the game is going now.  The gold statues are all in their original places, and the ugly mean white guys just showed up, so what follows leads to the catastrophic event that destroyed the tribe's sanctuary many years ago.  When the Castaways showed up in game one, they restored the Sanctuary and the tribe's trust.  I wonder if we can mess with history, being 'back in time' like we are in this game, and save the tribe from these nasty guys?  But then...that would erase the premise of the first game.  Ah....what a web we weave!

Unlike the first game, I don't think I will spend a lot of time running around collecting pearls, because I know I have nowhere to go with them, and I will have to start over when the game is released.  Nevertheless, I am anxious to see the final result!!  In the meantime, I'm going back to the first game, with Tom. Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

I L-O-V-E-D this.  I joined Awen after Castaways was out - so somehow missed the first one.  Castaways 2 Beta made me go and buy Castaways 1 - LOL!

Pros - Love the storyline and the ability to 'choose' which line, really like the idea of being able to explore where I want (to some extent)

Cons - I agree with others - the music was repetitious enough I turned it off.  I really like the variation in Castaways 1.

Not sure what the 'extra' items do.....MAJOR GRAMMAR  errors - which are beyond adding 'tribal' influence.  Like another poster, I made copious notes on the grammar if Awen developers are interested - bit of a beef with me.

I really hope they add voice overs for the final version.  Make it a bit more clear or able to choose being a carpenter or hunter as part of the decision making process - but maybe the point is the main character needs to be a shaman to forward the game - if so that should be made clear as well.

I thought the opening scenes should be developed a little more to make it clear it is a prequel to Castaways 1.  Maybe create it as kind of a 'flashback' from Castaways 1.

I am greatly enjoying - day 3 of re-playing Castaways 1.  Thanks Awen for creating games that are perfect for Long weekends and not finishing in 3 hours!!!!  Can't wait for Castaways 2 to come out....It is on my HAVE TO BUY list!!!

Happy 4th of July everyone - stay safe.

Mejrdalman, good move, buying the first game!  It is so much fun, and it will prepare you for the new one.  Be sure to turn the music down a little and the sound way up...you'll be surprised at all the wonderful sounds you will hear!  It is still my all-time favorite game!

I'm addicted - I finished it took 4 days - got all the trophies - but the gold 'explored % island'  - don't know why that happened....so I'm replaying it while I wait for the C2 to come out.

Mejrdalman, I'm like you, bought the Island 1 game after doing the Beta for the sequel (err, prequel).
Just finished today, couldn't stop playing. One of the best games I've played recently! Not even the hardwired right-hand mouse stopped me, that's how good it is.
As for the Explorer medal in I:C 1 - I ran around for quite some time trying to get all the cloud-covered spots, [spoiler, highlight to read'> and the last part I got to was the slip of land that runs on the outside of the 'bottom' mountains surrounding the Central forest.
Access to this slip of land is by turning right, 'behind' the cliff just before you cross the shallow water going into the village.
Took me ages to find, but now I too have the Explorer medal Image

Mejrdalman, There is a place that is easily missed, in the bottom right corner of the map.  When you turn south to come out of the village to cross the water to the other island, there are cliffs on the lower right side of your screen.  There is actually a path there, so veer to the right and down, and you will find your way around the bank of those cliffs.  There's nothing there but a few crab and coconut, but that should clear all the clouds from your map, and you should get the final trophy.  Good luck!

Regarding the non-linearity of the game; yes there are small differences in the game depending on the small choices you make - I found (during the short beta, anyway) that there were not major differences, only small ones.
Such as; first time playing I (meaning Yati) spoke to the woman who cooks (forget her name) first and she taught me 'about fire'.
Then I talked to Muze, who gave me a fishing rod taught me how to fish - and all by myself I knew or intuited to cook the fish with Kiwis - and I had a recipe for Grilled fish that looked delicious.

Next time I played I for some reason talked to Muze before I talked to the woman who cooks (I think it was because I now felt more comfortable exploring and not feeling the need to follow the prompts of who wanted to talk to me).
But when he taught me to fish this time, he asked if I could cook it, I said no, and the taught me the recipe for Dried Fish - could have just called it Charred Fish 'cause that what it looked like, lol. An unappetizing dish of fish-shaped charcoal!
Similar, when the hunter guy taught me to hunt Quick-hoppers, he gave me the recipe for Smoked Quick-hopper - looked simply like a grilled bird on a stick.
The first time around I - all by myself - cooked it with lemons and herbs.

So - if the cook woman do not teach you 'about fire', the food you get to make looks less appetizing than otherwise. I have not checked if that food is less nourishing or not, so I don't know if really matters, but I'm constantly on the look-out for subtle differences.

Also, when you the mission to talk to Muze about white men - first time playing I did talk to him about that. Can't remember now what that accomplished, but...
Second time playing I did something else first (I think it was talked to the Carpenter, he told me to 'find work'), then when I went to look for him there was the Farmer woman instead at his spot, looking for him cause she needed help with her flooded fields. I - so far at least - havent seen Muze since.

Is anyone else having problems moving around in the game?  I swear that when I go into the Quick Hopper Forest, Yati goes into slow motion.  I can barely get him to move, but even the critters are moving in slow motion, and the arrows!  Sometimes in the garden, it's the same thing.  Then suddenly he kicks into high gear and starts moving fast.  I know that when I cross different backgrounds, he is very slow.  Usually the only place he seems to move normally is along the beach.  It's very frustrating...and I'd like to know if it's just my computer, or if it's something in the game.  The original game still moves perfectly.

I have not experienced anything like that, no problems with Yati's or anyone's movements.
The only annoying slowdown is sometimes when the game autosave works, then everything stops for a second or two and when it starts again Yati has 'jumped' a few meters as if he was running all along I just didn't see him lol.
Very annoying when he runs smack into an enraged boar.

I guess it's my screen resolution that's causing the problem, then, because when I changed from full screen to windowed mode, the movement is just fine.  Unfortunately, it loses a lot of the charm of the game played in a small screen like that.  I'll figure it out eventually.  I don't know why I am still playing....I know I have to start all over when the full version comes out, but just like the first game, it is so addictive! I've played through the Beta twice. Have finished all the tasks, and obtained the 1st potion & Sun Power. I've purchased the 'New Man's' inventory bag. I've found the 'grassy doll', and the hammer.
When I first started playing the Beta, I was expecting to see the primary character as a white person castaway, not an island villager.
In the final release, I would like to see the ability to reclaim my spent arrows, when I miss the target.
Other than that, I think the game is absolutely awesome!

MaxH, it's not very well hidden, near some tall grass behind one of the huts.  I'm not sure which one, but you shouldn't have a problem finding it.  I think it is near Wasani's hut, because it is his hammer.  Update:  I started the game over again, for the 5th time!  I found the hammer after I bought the large bag from Wasani.  Go above and around his hut...there is another hut next to his, and the hammer is just behind that hut.

I have played the game under three different names, and each game has taken on different properties.  This last time, I paid particular attention to whom I spoke with, and in what order.  It makes a big difference!  The first time through, I was getting charred fish, and smoked quick-hopper.  The second time, I made sure I talked with Tambusi (recipe keeper) first, any time she was available, and now my grilled fish look wonderful, cooked with kiwi!  And the quick-hopper looks much tastier, too!.  The difference is in the ingredients required to cook them.  The better they look, the more ingredients they require.  Then I compared how much I was able to sell them for...if it was worth the additional work to create a better looking dish.  I was really shocked to see that my basic grilled bird got 66 pearls, but the bird that required lemons and white blossom only sells for 56 pearls.  How odd is that?  I think it's strange that the price of supplies has gone up...considering we have gone backwards in time.  Why do we have to work harder, Awem?  It used to be one pearl for a twig.  Now it is 2 pearls.  Potatoes used to be 9 pearls, now they are 10.
